Through over a year has passed since the devasting earthquake of April last year, reconstruction of as many as 11 schools that were damaged in the disaster has yet to begin in Kavre.
Of the total number of schools damaged in the tremor, District Education Office Kavre has planned to start the reconstruction of as many as 45 primary schools was supposed to have started in the current fiscal. However, mo initiative the reconstruction of those schools has been taken yet through the current fiscal year is just about to end.
According to Kavre District Education Officer Nandalal Poudel, the officer has entered the process of issuing tender notices.
'Though we had planned to start the reconstruction of the 11 schools at one go from this fiscal itself, it couldn't happen due to technical difficulties. But now that we've called the tender, we are most likely to sign the contracts this fiscal year," he said.
Department of Education has taken charge of reconstruction of all earthquake damaged schools across the district, with a plan to complete the reconstruction in 15 months. The to be reconstructed facilities will be quake-resistence, besides being children, disabled and environment-friendly.
As per the department, schools completely damaged in the quake, having maximum number of students and those having access to road will get priority for reconstruction.
Regarding the reconstruction of lower secondary and secondary schools, the departments will start its work from the next fiscal.
As per the data with the DEO, as many as 548 community schools, including 321 primary, 91 lower secondary, 80 secondary and 56 higher secondary schools in the district were damaged in the quake.
Of them, while some 353 schools were completely damaged, 195 others sustained partial damage. Similarly, while 994 classrooms were completely damaged, 1571 were partially damaged.
