Kathmandu, Dec 3: A morning procession was organised in the capital today to mark the 25th International Day of the persons with disabilities.The rally that began from Bhrikutimandap passed through Padmodaya school, Putali sadak and converged into a corner meet upon reaching back to the starting point.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Health Gagan Kumar Thapa expressed the commitment to take the necessary initiative to have the Act relating to disability passed from the parliament to ensure the rights of the persons with disabilities.He also disclosed that a committee would soon be formed to study the contribution to be made on behalf of the Health Ministry in the disability sector.
President of National Disability Federation Nepal Sudarshan Subedi emphasized on the need for effective enforcement of the Supreme Court verdict in favour of persons with disabilities.The national census 2011 has stated that the total population of persons with disability in the country stands between two to three per cent. The international day of persons with disabilities is being observed since 1992 at the call of the United Nations.
