The multimedia digital library established at the Bidyamandir Pustakalaya in the district headquarters Baglung four months ago is becoming effective with the considerable increment of readers visiting the library.
The number of readers visiting the library has increased as compared to previous time before the digital library was set up, said chairman of the library management committee Rajesh Chandra Rajbhandari.
He said that more than 20 people visit the library on a daily basis at present and majority of them are students.
Established in 2003 BS, the library has more than 10,000 textbooks of different subjects and over 100,000 reference materials.
"The library has textbooks and reference materials especially meant for students. Students can acquire knowledge and skills through audios and videos," Rajbhandari said, adding that the visitors can also read newspapers and magazines, and books of various genres. There is also a downloading facility available.
In case of the unavailability of internet, the library cannot be used through web server, Rajbhandari said.
The library has also benefited students in a great way. "It is enjoyable using the digital library. There is also audio and video facility as well," said Bhim Prasad Kandel, a student, who frequents the library.
The library has six computers and is planning to add four more within mid-August, the library management committee said.
The digital library was established with financial support of the non-resident Nepalis and technical help from the Nepal Library Foundation.
A campaign was also launched under the leadership of Som Sapkota, Europe coordinator of the foundation, to collect donation from Nepalis living in various foreign countries to establish it.
The District Development Committee also donated Rs 70,000 while Baglung Municipality Rs 50,000. Likewise, Baglung Sewa Samaj, Qatar contributed Rs 30,000.
